European Coalition on Oil in Sudan: Ecosonline

European Coalition on Oil in Sudan: Ecosonline The European Coalition on Oil in Sudan (ECOS) is a group of over 80 European organizations working for peace and justice in Sudan. We call for action by governments and the business sector to ensure that Sudan’s oil wealth contributes to peace and equitable development.
On 9 January 2005 the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed, bringing an official end to the war between North and South Sudan. This historic achievement allows a sharp turn away from past practices, when oil brought misery to many people. There is a widely shared hope that natural resources will be instrumental to bring peace and prosperity. The challenge is to realise this.
ECOS therefore designed principles that apply to all sectors, all regions and all companies, hoping they will contribute to mobilise the potential of the entire private sector to shape a prosperous and peaceful Sudan.
